It was a mix of western European Baroque with traditional Russian folks styles. The major royal project of the interval was the enlargement of Palace of Versailles, begun in 1661 by Le Vau with decoration Art & Music by the painter Charles Le Brun. The gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre particularly to enhance and amplify the architecture.
