At the Sunday ceremony of the MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift walked the stage to accept the Video of the Year trophy for the clip titled “The Fate of Ophelia.”
Record-breaking VMA haul
The latest triumph pushed her cumulative count of Moon Person awards to 33, a figure that now exceeds the previous tie she shared with another leading artist, each of whom had amassed 30 honors.
Earlier in the evening, she was also presented with the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. This special award recognized her behind-the-camera contributions, noting that she has directed eighteen of the roughly sixty music videos she has released to date.
New video debut and direction win
During the same broadcast, the audience was treated to the premiere of the brand-new video for “Patient Zero.” The short film features Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, who portray a volatile relationship that unfolds over a series of stark, cinematic moments.

In addition to the debut, she earned the best direction prize for the visual titled “Opalite.” The award adds another credential to her growing résumé as a director, showing her expanding creative influence beyond singing.
The “The Fate of Ophelia” video, which serves as the lead single from the record-breaking 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl, was highlighted for its showgirl-inspired aesthetic.
Tribute to a country legend
When she accepted the top honor, Taylor Swift dedicated the award to the late Dolly Parton, who passed away in August at the age of 80. The dedication honored the country legend’s impact on music and performance art.
